Medical Receptionist College Courses

Medical receptionist college courses are usually offered at trade schools, technical colleges, or community colleges. Generally, classes for medical receptionists are available as certificate courses in medical office administration, medical reception, or medical assisting. The coursework covers customer relations, medical terminology, medical coding, management of medical records, as well as learning to operate health care software and information systems. Some programs come with an internship or practicum so students will have hands-on, real-world experience.

The objectives of the medical technology course is for students to be able to define terms and symbols that are commonly used in medical practice. Understanding and proficiency of medical terms will enable a medical receptionist to understand medical conditions and treatments. This also a way to communicate effectively with doctors and other medical professionals.

Keyboarding is also another basic course for medical receptionists. It includes keyboard training to increase speed and proficiency when typing letters, symbols, and numbers without looking at the keyboard. There are benchmarks for speed and accuracy that students must reach in order to pass.
